The Mutual, originally known as the Maitland Mutual Building Society, has been serving the people of Maitland and the Hunter Valley since 1888.
As one of the oldest member-owned building societies in Australia, it is proud of its heritage and trust that it can assist members in their financial needs. Because it is owned by its members, it is committed to the principles of mutuality, as well as to ensuring its members’ interests are protected and to the promotion of their financial well-being.
The Mutual has seven branches in NSW: Dungog, Rutherford, Maitland (head office), East Maitland, Raymond Terrace, Glendale, and Mayfield. You can visit a staff member in person at one of these branches. Alternatively, you can contact this lender online, via email, a general customer phone line, as well as a dedicated line for phone banking and for those experiencing financial hardship.
The Mutual’s mission is to build long-term financial relationships with a growing number of people and businesses through traditional and modern banking technologies, delivered with a commitment to excellence and personal member service.
The Mutual offers a wide range of financial products such as home loans, car loans, personal loans, business loans, credit and debit cards, everyday accounts, savings and investment accounts, SMSF accounts and insurance products. It also provides financial planning services and investment advice. For its home loan products, it offers flexible payment features, a wide variety of variable loans and discounted rates.
Aside from offering these products and services, The Mutual understands that it has an obligation to the community, including its members, to operate in a socially responsible manner. It sponsors or partners with community and not-for-profit organisations, provides time and/or resources to support staff fundraising activities, as well as involves its staff in a number of community fundraising ventures and volunteering opportunities. It also has its own financial literacy program, Bank@School, which is active within a number of local schools.
