What you need to know about Bank of us home loans

Bank of us is Tasmania's only customer-owned bank. Its roots stretch back to the Launceston Equitable Building & Investment Society founded in 1870, and it still operates solely under its own licence as a mutual lender.

You might find Bank of us a good fit if you

  • Live in Tasmania and value face-to-face help
The bank runs seven branches in Devonport, Ulverstone, Burnie, Wynyard, Launceston, Hobart, and Rosny Park.

  • Don't mind using other banks' ATMs
Bank of us no longer operates its own ATM fleet, but it lets customers withdraw cash fee-free at any major-bank ATM.

  • Want the choice of a basic and a full-feature mortgage product
The bank's Topline Home Loan includes an offset account, while its FlexiDiscount skips the offset (and some fees) for a simpler structure.

  • Need a longer loan term
Bank of us customers can apply for an extended home loan term of up to 40 years, which may lower repayments for borrowers who otherwise struggle to qualify on a 30-year term (but longer loan terms can result in more interest overall).

  • Have only a small deposit
Bank of us participates in the 5% Deposit Scheme and promotes Tasmania's MyHome shared-equity program, both aimed at helping first-time buyers get in sooner.

  • Care about local ownership and lighter-impact products
As a mutual bank, Bank of us' profits stay in Tasmania, while its planet-friendly initiatives include plant-based Eco Visa cards.
