A new report has found Perth apartments to be growing in height but not in size, as rooms have been shrinking over the past 15 years across most apartment types.

The area also had the largest single year increase of apartment supply on record, the Master Builders and Y Research stated. It added that Perth faces a total of 1,613 new apartments in 2015 – a 52.2% jump from 2010 figures.

“This report reveals a 34% increase in supply of mostly occupied inner-city Perth apartments since 2010,” Geoff Cooper, director of housing in Master Builders, said in Perth Now.

“It is clear that in WA we are seeing a value shift. Apartments are an increasingly popular lifestyle choice for Western Australians.”

Master Builders and Y Research focused on 19 suburbs within five kilometres of the Perth CBD, as well as the city itself. South Perth emerged to have the most number of apartment buildings in the list.

A total of 10,685 apartments are set to be finished by 2020.
