Keen to offer potential customers in regional areas sorely needed services including internet loan applications and out of hours access, St. George will roll out Mortgage Connect nationally if the Queensland venture is successful. Consumers needn't be existing St. George customers in order to have a lender visit them - they can apply to receive a home visit through the St. George call centres. The service will be available on a 24/7 basis, with the sales force being remunerated on a commission basis. "Most people want to deal with someone directly and face to face, who can talk them through the products and lending criteria. Customers can apply for a loan there and then through the internet, and receive a conditional approval within minutes" said Steven Heavey, St.George's general manager of third party and specialist distribution. The bank is currently recruiting licensees to roll out the network, which is expected to be operational in Queensland by September. Victoria and Western Australia will be the next states to benefit, before the service is then rolled out in New South Wales.
