The oldest Australian couple is entering the hot property market after almost eight decades of living at 77 Spencer Rd which they bought at a time when the average Sydney house costs 1,000 pounds and a loaf of bread sixpence.

Tom and Jean Cheetham, 103 and 100, respectively, hope to sell their semi-detached property for $1.4m at the auction and many potential buyers are coming from the neighbourhood, The Courier Mail reported.

Two months ago the couple moved to a nursing home and agents said not much has changed in the Mosman home. In fact, they said the kitchen is still in its original form.

“They put a garage in under the front of the home and they filled in the little veranda out the back, they built a workshed for my father and that’s about it,” said son Kevin Cheetham, 70.

Selling agent Rob Forde of Harcourts Lower North Shore said several local residents want to have a look at the house “look because it’s been held in the family for so long”.

Buyers are also seeing potential as it is one of only a few unrenovated semis along Spencer Rd, which is a particularly desirable address in Mosman, Forde added.
