Online surveys

If you’ve got a spare 10 minutes here and there, why not make a bit of extra money by filling in online surveys? There are a variety of online companies who will pay you anywhere from $2 - $20 per survey you submit. It’s very easy to sign up and each survey usually takes between 10 minutes and half an hour to complete.
A word of warning though- make sure you only sign up to survey companies offering free registration and are based in Australia.

Focus group market research

Participating in a focus group is a great way to earn extra cash. You can sign up online, then head along to the meeting point where you’ll be asked to share your opinions with companies who will pay for your feedback. Sometimes you’ll be asked to test a new product, view a new advertising campaign or taste a new drink or food item.

Write content

If you like the idea of turning your hand to writing for the web, or fancy yourself knowledgeable about events or fun things to do in your city, why not try a spot of freelance writing? Well-known and reputable websites that may pay you for your contributions include weekend notes and bars and nightclubs.

The amount they pay depends on the payment method you choose. Often sites will offer either a one-off payment for your work, or commission based on your hit-rate.

Become a mystery shopper

Like shopping? Fancy yourself a bit of a spy? Why not try out mystery shopping- you anonymously observe and report of the quality of customer service delivered by businesses. It’s easy to sign up online, and once on the database you’ll be offered assignments in your local area. The amount you get paid depends on the individual task, but generally range in between $15 and $80. Not bad for a trip to the shops!

Rent out whatever you don’t use

Renting out your unused space may be a ‘back to basics’ approach to making money on the side- but that’s just because it works! If you live in a metropolitan city, renting out your garage for storage, or your parking space can be quite a lucrative venture.

There are also a number of sites where you can advertise for free, with well-known gumtree being both user-friendly and widely used.
