The number of Sydney properties to go under the hammer last week leapt to 550 from 399 in the week ending 25 October, new statistics have shown.

The clearance rate was also up in the New South Wales capital, rising to 73.5% from 67.7% the previous week.

According to RP Data figures released today, there were also big gains in the Northern Territory where clearance rates going from 30% to 80%. Clearance rates in Tasmania made considerable progress, climbing from 28.6% to 46.7%. Brisbane saw a more moderate rise in clearance rates, going from 43.1% to 47.8%.

Clearances rates declined moderately in Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.
