Perth has emerged to be one of the world’s most expensive places to live, where a bottle of water is pricier than the tourist-magnet Paris.
 
New figures have revealed that residents are still paying a lot at cash registers even after the mining boom, The West Australian reported.
 
Perth also edges places such as Washington, Singapore and Boston in terms of cost of living, while only isolated Darwin is more expensive.
 
A website called the Numbeo compiles prices for goods and services from hundreds of cities. Its latest update for 2015 found Perth expensive in everything from soft drink to utilities and cars. The area also provides the most expensive cigarettes and cinema tickets.
 
On a global scale for pre-paid mobile phone use, Perth lands on the sixth most expensive spot.
 
Even a three-course dinner for two is most expensive in Perth than the rest of Australia. It’s in the top 20 worldwide.
 
If there is anything at all that is becoming cheaper for Perth residents, it is their housing costs.
 
Numbeo’s figures, which were backed by the Real Estate Institute of WA report, saw a $5000 drop in the median house price in Perth over the past three months to $545,000.
